CLVT48X - Ride on Mowers - Cylinder Training

Who should attend:- Those wishing to work in Groundcare maintenance, landscaping, Leisure Complexes, Local Authorities

What is the course aim?:- To provide delegates with the base knowledge of how to avoid accidents and carry out an on site assessment, about the relevant legal requirements and how to meet them, how to adjust the cutting mechanisms to give the required standard of cut, the importance of daily checks and routine maintenance, to identify faults and record or report and how to operate the mower safely and efficiently.

The course includes:-

  • Use of manufacturer’s handbook
  • Identify the risks associated with this type of machine
  • Select appropriate Personal Protective Equipment
  • Carry out daily checks as indicated in the operators manual
  • Carry out pre start checks
  • Identify and report any faults

You can only attend this course if you have already attended the Basic Tree Climbing Course and the Felling Small Trees Course.

Who should attend:- Those wishing to work in the public sector as landscape gardeners, professional foresters, amenity or utility aboricultural activities or to use chainsaws and related equipment for business, domestic or leisure activities.

What is the course aim?:-The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 require employers to provide adequate training and to ensure that chainsaws and related equipment are operated only by employees who have received appropriate training in their safe use. This course aims to provide delegates with the base knowledge to understand the principles of how to protect yourself and operate equipment safely, cutting and felling techniques, how to keep your chainsaw in good condition and the best practice operating chainsaws, strimmers, brushcutters, woodchippers, strimmers, etc.

This course includes:-

  • Regulations and industry best practice
  • Working in the tree crown
  • Starting procedures
  • Correct handling of the saw
  • Accurate use of the saw to cut lightweight and medium weight branches

This course deals with taking down hung-up trees using hand tools or winches, and takes place over a 1 day period.

What do the courses cover?

Safe Use of Pesticides (Amenity) - Foundation Module

One-day courses, for a maximum of 12 people.

  • The current regulations and codes of practice for use of pesticides
  • How to prepare the equipment for spraying
  • How to apply pesticides, clean the equipment and dispose of waste
  • The requirements of current legislation
  • Using pesticides appropriately and safely
  • Keeping proper records
  • Storing pesticides correctly
  • Cleaning equipment
  • Disposing of unwanted pesticides and containers
  • Dealing with contamination and poisoning incidents.

Practical Applications including Field Crop Sprayer, Hand Held Applicators and Air Assisted Bush and Tree Spraying

One-day courses for a maximum of six people.

  • The requirements in detail of current legislation
  • Applying pesticides safely and efficiently
  • Identifying and selecting appropriate nozzles or restrictors
  • Preparing and calibrating the equipment
  • Operating the equipment in compliance with current legislation and codes of practice
  • Cleaning equipment
  • Disposing of unwanted pesticides and containers
  • Identifying and rectifying faults
  • Recognising conditions when spraying is inadvisable
